Initiated by ERTICO, the Telematics-Forum grouped service companies, terminal manufacturers, and the automotive industry to support and promote the continuing development and market adoption of automotive ITS services delivered via cellular networks. This forum, formally called GATS (Global Automotive Telematic Standard) Forum, was aiming at changing the focus, from the roll-out of a specific protocol to a one-stop shop for telematics-based smart vehicles, noticeably by converging former GATS applications (e.g. emergency call, traffic information, etc.) with WAP specifications.
